A cape covers the back and nothing else. No sleeves to push legs through, no panel under the belly, nothing across the face. For an animal that has refused everything else, this is usually the one that stays on.
It closes with a ribbon bow rather than Velcro or a buckle. One end of the ribbon and the whole thing is loose, which matters when the doorbell goes and you need it gone.

Count what an outfit touches. A four leg suit touches the neck, the chest, the belly and all four limbs, which is nine points of contact an animal can object to. This cape touches the throat and lies on the shoulders. There is nothing under the body, nothing around a leg and nothing on the head, so there is almost nothing to fight.
That is why it is the shape to try first with an animal you have never dressed. If a pet refuses a cape it will refuse everything, and you have learned that in ten seconds for the price of the cheapest item in the range. If it accepts one, you know a jumper is worth trying next year.
The collar band is 13.5cm deep and closes with a ribbon rather than Velcro or a plastic buckle. Ribbon is the right choice here for one reason: it opens completely in a single pull from either end, with no seam to unpick and no clip to locate by feel while an animal is moving.
It has one weakness worth knowing. A bow tightens when the cape is dragged, and satin is slippery enough to drag on furniture. Tie it so two fingers lie flat under the band, then look again after the animal has walked a circuit of the room, because that is when a loose bow becomes a tight one.
There is no size to choose. The band adjusts from 20 to 35cm and the supplier quotes 29 to 35cm as the range it sits best across, which in practice means a cat, a chihuahua, a pug or a small terrier. A collie or anything heavier is outside it, and there is no larger version of this style to move up to.
Judge the length by where the hem falls rather than by any number. Spread across the back it measures 71 by 51cm, so on a cat it reaches past the tail and on a small terrier it stops near the hips. Both are fine. What you do not want is a hem the back feet can tread on, which is the one way a cape trips an animal rather than merely annoying it.

Bought this for handing sweets out at the door with the dog beside me. One tug on the bow and the cape is on the floor, which mattered when a nervous toddler turned up. The 71 by 51cm spread looks far bigger draped over a terrier than it sounds on paper.
The red lining looks much richer than I expected for something this light, and at 70 grams our whippet genuinely does not notice it. The stand up collar is 13.5cm deep though, and on a long neck it rides towards the jaw unless you set the ribbon lower than feels natural. Still the easiest thing he has ever worn.
Out of the packet it is a flat piece of satin and I did wonder. On the cat the 51cm drop falls in proper folds and the stand up collar frames her face nicely. She sat on the windowsill in it as though she had chosen the outfit herself.
Our cat has thrown off two jumpers and a hat over the years, but a cape that only rests on her back turned out to be acceptable. The ribbon at the throat means I can loosen it in one pull when she has had enough. She wore it for most of an evening and I got the photograph I wanted.
No complaints about the construction, the lining is properly sewn in rather than glued. The red is a fair bit more scarlet than the deep wine colour I was expecting from the listing photo. Our cat still wore it through a whole family evening without trying to back out of it.
We did an early evening walk in the last week of October and the cape stayed put the whole way round the park. Because it only sits on his back and shoulders his legs are completely free, and he trotted about as normal. I hand washed it after and hung it up and it was dry by morning.
It does what it says and our cat tolerated it, so no complaints about the design itself. The satin came out of the packet with fold lines across the back that never really dropped out, and since it is hand wash only I did not want to press it. It photographs well from a distance and less well close up.
Two previous outfits went straight in the cupboard because he would freeze the moment anything touched his belly. This one rests on the back and touches nothing else, and he simply carried on chewing his toy. The ribbon bow is the only fastening and it holds better than I assumed it would.
The cape is well made and the satin has a decent weight to it for seventy grams. My one note is that the ribbon works loose if you tie it gently, so I ended up doing a double bow before the party. After that it stayed put for two hours without moving.

No. The tie stops at 35cm, which covers cats, small dogs and the smaller end of medium. A collie or a labrador is outside it entirely, and there is no larger size in this style.
