Almost everything sold for one night in October is useless on the second of November. This is the exception: a dog jumper that happens to have a pumpkin on it, not a costume pretending to be knitwear.

A knitted jumper is a jumper first and a costume second. Once the pumpkin stops being seasonal it is still the warmest thing a thin coated dog owns, which is more than any cape or hat in this range can say.
The chart starts at a 21cm back and a 16cm neck, which genuinely fits a chihuahua or a kitten. Most seasonal knitwear starts two sizes up and leaves the smallest animals with nothing.
The pumpkin is worked into the knit rather than glued or heat pressed, so there is no appliqué edge to lift and nothing for a bored animal to pick off and swallow.

Seasonal pet clothing usually carries its motif as a heat pressed transfer or a glued appliqué. Both have an edge, that edge lifts after a few washes, and a lifted edge is something an animal can pick at and swallow. Here the pumpkin is worked into the knit itself, in a contrasting yarn, so there is no separate piece to come away.
It also survives washing in a way a transfer does not. The motif cannot crack or peel because it is structural rather than applied, which is the difference between a jumper that lasts several winters and one that looks tired by December.
Ribbed knit stretches generously around the barrel of the chest and hardly at all along its length. That asymmetry decides how to size it. The chest figure in the chart has give in it and will forgive a couple of centimetres either way. The spine figure has none, and a jumper that is short there rides up behind the front legs and bunches at the armpits.
So read the first column and ignore the temptation to size on weight. Two dogs of identical weight can differ by eight centimetres along the back, and the shorter, deeper one will be swimming in the size that fits the longer, leaner one.
Acrylic knit is insulation, and insulation is a problem for anything that already carries its own. A husky, a collie or a long haired cat in a heated room does not need this and will pant in it. The animals it genuinely helps are the thin coated ones: whippets, chihuahuas, greyhound crosses, sphynx and rex cats, and elderly animals of any breed that have stopped regulating heat well.
For those, a jumper on a cold evening is a real kindness rather than a costume, and the fact that it carries a pumpkin in October is incidental. Check the ears and the belly after twenty minutes indoors; warm ears and fast breathing mean it comes off.
Acrylic tolerates water well and heat badly. Cool machine wash on a gentle cycle, then reshape it while it is damp and dry it flat rather than hanging it, because a wet knit hung on a line stretches under its own weight and comes back longer than it went in.
Keep it out of the tumble dryer entirely. Acrylic does not shrink the way wool does but it does felt and stiffen under heat, and a stiffened rib loses the stretch that was doing the fitting.

The supplier's own figures, unaltered. Size on the back column first; the chest has stretch in it and the neck is a roll that gives further. Note the jump between M and L is ten centimetres, so a dog measuring 38 to 44cm sits awkwardly between them and is better in the L.
Cool wash, reshape damp, dry flat, no dryer. If the ribbing at the neck or hem starts to gape after a season, a short soak in cool water and a firm reshape while drying will bring most of it back.

The back length was right at 40cm but the jumper is close fitting round the ribs and I had to ease it over his shoulders the first time. It has relaxed after a wash and now goes on easily. The navy with the orange ribbing looks smarter than I expected from the photograph.
It went on for the last week of October and then simply stayed in rotation. It is a jumper first and a costume second, which is exactly why I chose it over a cape. Washed cool and dried flat twice now and the shape has not gone anywhere.
I bought it for one evening and it has been on the dog most mornings since. The ribbed knit is thicker than I expected and our whippet stops shivering the moment it goes on for the first walk. The pumpkin is knitted into the back rather than printed, so there is nothing to peel.
No complaints about the fit or the pumpkin, which is worked into the knit neatly and looks better than the printed ones. The acrylic does leave fluff on a dark sofa for the first week or so. It settled down after two washes, but I was picking bits off cushions before that.
Our last seasonal jumper had a glued pumpkin on it and she had half of it off within a day. This one has the pumpkin knitted in, so there is no edge to get a tooth under. Six weeks on and the back looks exactly as it did on the first morning.
The navy is almost black in normal indoor light and you only really see the blue outside. Not a fault as such, just worth knowing if you wanted an obvious contrast with the orange ribbing. The knit itself is dense and has kept its shape through three cool washes.
Most seasonal knitwear starts at a size that swamps her, so a chart beginning at a 21cm back was the reason I ordered. The extra small fits our chihuahua properly across the shoulders with the roll neck sitting where it should. Front legs only, so nothing catches underneath.
I went by his weight at first and ordered a medium, which was too short over the hips. The chart is by back length for a reason, and once I measured properly the large was right. The jumper itself is soft and the ribbed hem does not ride up on him.
We went for black with the orange ribbing and against a cream coat it is very striking. The roll neck stays up rather than flopping, which I think is down to how tight the ribbing is. Our labrador cross wears the 2XL at a 62cm back and it is not stretched at all.

Black. The listing names the colourways Orange and Navy Blue, but the photographs show a black garment and a navy one, both with orange ribbing. We have named them from the pictures rather than the label.

They are black. The supplier names the two colourways Orange and Navy Blue, but only the ribbing is orange and it is orange on both. We have named them Black and Navy from the photographs so the swatch matches what arrives.
No. It is a front legs only jumper, so the belly and hindquarters are open. That makes it quick to put on and means nothing is in the way when they squat.
