The bun is a single padded piece that lies along the spine and drops down each flank. One strap closes at the throat, a second passes behind the front legs, and that is the entire fitting operation. No paw is threaded anywhere and nothing passes over the head.
That matters more than it sounds. Most refusals happen during dressing rather than during wearing, because lifting a paw and posting it through a sleeve is the part animals genuinely dislike. Remove that step and a lot of pets who have refused other outfits will accept this one.
The bun is filled rather than flat, so it holds a rounded shape and projects on both sides. In a photograph taken across a room that volume is what makes the costume legible; a printed flat version of the same design reads as a coloured coat and nothing more.
The trade is that filling cannot be washed. Soak it and the padding stays damp for days and can hold a smell afterwards. Sponge the outer fabric, stand it somewhere airy, and accept that this is a costume with a finite life rather than a garment.
The supplier prints a chart running from small to double extra large. Only three of those are made. We have trimmed the published table to the three that ship, because a chart offering sizes you cannot buy is worse than no chart at all.
Within those three, the chest figure is the one to check. A saddle rests on the ribcage rather than hanging from the neck, so a bun sized for a narrower animal will sit high and tip sideways when the dog moves. Back length only decides how much of the spine it covers.

Chest first for this one, which is the reverse of how you would size a jumper. The costume balances on the ribcage, so a chest that is too big lets the whole thing swing; a back length that is slightly off changes nothing except coverage. The supplier's chart also lists XL and 2XL, which are not manufactured.

The bun is properly filled, so when he lies down it springs back rather than staying squashed. After two evenings of visitors it looks the same as it did out of the bag. Nothing goes over his head, which is the only reason he lets me put it on him.
Two straps and it is done, which with our dachshund is the only way anything gets worn at all. The padded bun holds its shape down both sides so the joke lands from across the room. He trotted about in it with all four legs completely free.
The bun colour is paler than the pictures, more of a light beige than the golden tan I expected, though the red sausage part is bright enough. It does not spoil it and people still knew instantly what it was. The straps are generous and easy to set.
I measured him at 30cm along the back and 45cm round the chest, and the medium sat exactly where it should. Both straps had spare adjustment left over. He wore it through a whole afternoon of visitors without once trying to rub it off.
Our spaniel measures 32cm along the back so I took the large at 34cm, and the bun overhangs his back end slightly. The medium would probably have been neater on him. It is padded well and the mustard stripe is stitched rather than stuck on.
No legs to thread and no head to post through means the whole thing takes seconds, which is about the length of his patience. The padded sides mean he actually reads as a hot dog in a group photograph rather than a dog in a red blanket. It folds flat enough to live in the lead drawer.
It looks great and our terrier does not object to it at all. The padding means a proper wash is out, and after he dragged one side through a muddy patch a damp cloth only got so much of it out. Fine if it stays indoors, less so for a walk.
I ordered the small for the dog and it turned out to fit the cat far better, so she got it instead. Because it sits over the back and is open underneath she can still curl up in it. Getting a cat into anything usually costs me a scratch, and this one did not.
The neck strap holds perfectly, but the strap under the belly works its way backwards on a deep chested dog and needs a nudge every twenty minutes. The costume itself is well padded and the stitched mustard line is neat rather than printed on. Still the thing everyone photographed at the party.

No. The published chart runs to 2XL but only S, M and L are made, so we list the three that actually ship. Above a 34cm back there is nothing in this design.
