Underneath the wings it is a plain shallow felt bed of the sort cats sit in year round. The seasonal part is a silhouette rather than a print, so it does not look absurd in February.
Felt sides collapse and spring back, so it stores in a drawer rather than taking up a shelf for eleven months.

There is a straightforward logic to this that the rest of the seasonal aisle ignores. If an animal refuses costumes, the way to include it is not a smaller costume. It is to move the seasonal object off the animal entirely and put it somewhere the animal already wants to be.
Cats sit in shallow containers. That is close to a law of nature, and it is the whole mechanism here: a felt tray with bat wings on the sides, placed where the cat already naps. The cat does what it was going to do anyway and the photograph takes itself.
The sides stand up on their own because the felt is stiffened rather than padded. That gives you a defined shape with no filling, so the whole thing weighs 78 grams and folds flat into a drawer for the eleven months it is not wanted.
The trade is comfort. This is a shape to sit in rather than a cushion to sink into, and most cats end up adding their own blanket. It takes one without losing the outline, which is worth knowing before the first night.
35 centimetres square with ten centimetre sides. That is generous for a kitten, correct for an average cat, and tight for a large one: a big British Shorthair will sit in it with its back end overhanging, which cats mind less than owners do but is worth picturing first.
A small terrier will fit and anything larger will simply flatten the sides. There is one size, so if your animal is at the top of that range this is a photograph rather than a bed it will use all winter.
The supplier makes this in two colourways. The second is a red Santa belt Christmas version, and we have not stocked it, because a Christmas bed in a Halloween category is padding rather than range.
The gallery is also thin. Only two supplier photographs of the black version are clean enough to use, which is the minimum we allow. It is an honest two rather than a padded six, and if a better set of photographs turns up this is the first product here we would source again.

Our black cat will not wear a thing, so a bed was the only seasonal option left to us. The felt sides stand up on their own and she was curled in the middle of it within the hour, which is faster than any bed we have bought her. The wings on the sides look like a proper silhouette rather than a print.
We put it down for October and it has never gone away. Underneath the wings it is just a shallow felt bed, and at 35cm across it is exactly the size our smaller cat likes. The red cross motif on the black felt is subtle enough that it does not look like leftover decoration in spring.
It is a lovely shape and only ten centimetres deep, so our older cat steps in rather than having to climb. The wings have started to lean outwards a little where she uses one as a headrest, and I have to push them back upright every few days. Not a fault exactly, just the nature of stiffened felt.
The thing that sold me was that it packs flat between seasons, and it does. The sides collapse, it slides into a drawer and it springs back out with no crease in it. At seventy eight grams it weighs nothing so it lives at the top of the cupboard. Our cat found it again this year within a minute of it coming out.
No complaints about the making of it. The felt is thick, the wings are sewn properly and the base sits flat on the floor. Ours simply will not use it and has gone back to the same cardboard box she has sat in all year, so it is currently a very nice ornament in the corner of the lounge.
Bought it for the cat and the chihuahua has claimed it, which the listing does say it suits. He is a small dog and the 35cm square is just enough for him to turn round in. The sides being stiff means he can lean against them without the whole thing folding over on him.
Good bed and it looks great in the hallway. Be aware that you cannot soak it though, because the felt goes soft permanently, so anything worse than a bit of fur means careful sponging. Ours had a hairball incident in November and it took some patience to get it back to looking right.
Our seventeen year old struggles to climb into anything with high sides, and at ten centimetres she can walk straight in. The felt holds a bit of warmth too, so she settles rather than moving after five minutes. The wings are decoration for us rather than for her, but they do make us smile.
We have tried a collar, a bandana and a small hat over the years and all of them lasted seconds. Putting the bat wings on the bed instead of on the cat solved the whole problem in one go. She sleeps in it every evening and has no idea she is taking part.
