The common way to carry a tracker is a small pod on a keyring loop, and it has two predictable problems. The loop wears, or the pod catches on something, and either way the holder comes off with the tracker inside it. The owner finds out when the pet goes missing, which is the one moment the system was bought for.
Moulding the housing into the strap removes the joint entirely. There is no ring to wear through and no clip to fail, because the tracker sits inside the collar rather than hanging from it. It also sits flat against the neck, which stops it swinging and catching on branches, fence wire or a cat flap.
A metal pod knocking against a name tag produces a constant jingle. For a dog it is mostly an annoyance to the household; for a cat it is more consequential, since the noise announces the cat to everything it is stalking and some cats become genuinely bothered by a sound they cannot get away from.
With the tracker inside the strap there is nothing to knock. The collar is silent unless you add a bell deliberately, which is worth thinking about separately, since a bell is a real benefit for local wildlife even though it costs the cat some hunting success.
At 520 millimetres the strap covers most dogs and can be cut down for a smaller neck. Fit it by the two finger rule: two fingers should slide flat underneath and no more. A tracking collar that is loose enough to slip over the head is worth nothing, and one too tight is uncomfortable all day.
Silicone is the practical advantage over webbing here. Mud, rain and whatever a dog has rolled in wipe off under a tap rather than soaking in, and it does not hold a smell the way wet nylon does. Check the housing is fully closed after each battery change, since an unseated cover is how water gets to the tracker.

We went through two clip on holders last year and both vanished off the collar within weeks, which rather defeats the point of a tracker. Having the 40 mm housing moulded into the strap itself means there is nothing to unclip and nothing to lose. Four months of hedgerows and it has not budged.
The 520 mm strap is clearly built with bigger dogs in mind and on our terrier there was a good hand span of spare tail flapping about. It does cut to length as the description says, but the cut end looks a bit raw next to the moulded finish on the rest of it. Once trimmed it sits flat and she has stopped trying to scratch at it.
Our cat would not tolerate her old arrangement because the holder tapped against the bell every time she moved. This is one piece of silicone so there is nothing to rattle, and she wore it all day without a fuss from the second afternoon. The 20 mm width looks wide in photos but sits flatter than it appears.
He swims in brackish water most weekends and every fabric collar we have owned ended up smelling like a pond. This one goes under the outside tap and comes back looking new, and the housing has not let any water near the tracker. A full year of that now.

The strap is 520 mm and punched with adjustment holes, so it goes down to a cat's neck, but it has no safety release. For a cat that goes outdoors, use a quick release collar and put the tracker on that instead.
The silicone is, and it seals around the housing, but an AirTag is only splash resistant itself. It will take rain and puddles; it is not something to swim in repeatedly.
